1. Award-winning publications
Our student-produced publications regularly win awards in both regional and national competitions. Drake Magazine recently received top honors in the Association of Journalism and Mass Communications' national contest for student-produced magazines. Urban Plains was named Best of Festival for interactive multimedia in the Broadcast Education Association international competition.
2. Professors with professional experience
Professors in the Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication have professional experience in the subject areas that they teach. Many of them are still actively practicing the skills they're teaching in the classroom.
3. New York City trip
Our junior magazine majors have the option of taking a trip to New York City each spring to meet with Drake grads at magazine throughout the City.
4. Internships and jobs
The SJMC’s class of 2016 had a 98% internship rate over four years. SJMC grads’ “accomplishment rate” in successfully obtaining post-graduate employment and graduate study was 100% in 2012, 2014 and 2015, and 99% in 2013.
5. New technology
From drones to 360 video cameras to virtual reality, you'll be using the latest technology in your SJMC classes.
